Why Read Love Shuttle Webtoon?
Love Shuttle is an ongoing webtoon series written and illustrated by Im Ae-Ju . This webtoon is about Lee Doyun and Jung Taehan and how their relationship progressed from being rivals to one of the cutest couples I've read about.
I would recommend it to readers who got tired of the cliché tropes in omegaverse where the omega is submissive, dependent, love-struck and worst of all feminized. While the themes of Love Shuttle is certainly not a new idea, it explores themes not usually seen in this genre.
My personal favorite was Doyun's inner struggle in getting to terms with his feelings for Taehan. While he may have liked Taehan for a long time and finally realized it, he did not jump on his feelings and got carried away. In fact, he did a lot of thinking and went through a series of denials before finally letting himself feel what he feels. In the first season, it was highlighted how Doyun felt when he realized that he held tender feelings for his rival, and his clumsy attempts at dealing with his emotions. In short, the anxiety and rush of first love.
Doyun's struggle was refreshing because, to be honest, not everyone is happy to be in love, especially if you went through most of your life not loving anyone romantically, which is how Doyun lived his life. First love would not only bring intense happiness and excitement but also fear and insecurity. The webtoon showed how Doyun's worldview turned upside down because of new encounters, feelings and discoveries and I was more than happy going through his journey with him.
Then here comes our Alpha, Taehan. To be honest, his character progression is nothing new and he exhibited the alpha traits we, fans of omegaverse, is familiar with. Possessive, confident and hella good at sex. He was portrayed as Doyun’s work rival and usually the one to start the fighting. He pays Doyun attention to the point that he notices Doyun’s scent (pheromones) and his heat condition before anybody else. I love how caring and protective he was of Doyun and how shy he sometimes gets around him. He was your typical Alpha starstruck with his Omega. His character was predictable but I didn’t really have a problem with that. But the end of season 2 promises that Taehan may not be your typical Alpha. Upon considering the possibility of Doyun’s pregnancy, he was visibly shaken and flustered, without any composure. He was unlike your typical Alpha male leads who can shoulder and solve anything.
We can see he was not ready to start a family and did not think that far ahead. He may love Doyun so much but the idea of another child or marriage was something else altogether. He simply was not ready for that and that's understandable. Afterall, he was still young, enjoying the feeling of being in love. This twist made me look forward to season 3.
There are other side characters who are interesting and we also have a side couple (Dojun x Jinyoung) (A hot-tempered alpha with an inferiority complex and a sly alpha doctor). I personally do not find their relationship to be that interesting, afterall, their kind of story was everywhere. Jinyoung was cunning and mischievous and he took an interest in Dojun. Meanwhile, our hot-tempered alpha Dojun is innocent when it comes to relationships, much like his younger brother. He is someone who wasn’t close to anybody aside from his family. With the occasional teasing and flirting of Jinyoung, Dojun slowly developed feelings for the doctor. If there was something that would make their relationship interesting, then it would be how Dojun’s second brother, Do-Hwa, would affect their relationship.
Do-Hwa was a terrible brother to Dojun. He bullied him and derives pleasure from doing so. From what I have seen so far, his personality seems awfully similar to Jinyoung.I'm really excited about what his role would be.
That's it and let me know if you enjoyed this manhwa!
